WIthout even realizing my last blog post was about the importance of Social and Emotional Learning I came across this great resource from edutopia and decided to write about it again. Helping students learn to communicate effectively and to have healty and effective social relationships is important. We teach students about so many different concepts, skills, ideas, etc. why not teach them skillls to repsond to the challenges they will face in their day to day interactions? Self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decsion making can only make us smarter. Why wait to incorporate SEL in our classrooms each and every day?
Sometimes as educators we get so busy that teaching and addressing social and emotional lessons and skills gets pushed to the way side. I was so happy to see this article on Education Week with useful information and resources links for teachers. I feel we as educators need to truly consider how we can consistently implement social-emotional lessons in our instruction. The Common Core Standards can guide our teaching of such content.
